We believe that education is an important pathway out of poverty and that high-quality early childhood education, family engagement and early social-emotional learning provide the foundation for school success.

Afterschool Programs

  • In 2017, in partnership with Communities in Schools, Early Learning Focus’ staff piloted an afterschool program for Kindergarten and Grade One students called Jump into Books at the Homer A. Plessy Community Charter School. Based on the interests of participants, each week the program focused on fiction and non-fiction selections from LETS Read Literacy Bags and accompanying activities.
  • In 2018, in partnership with Urban Strategies, Early Learning Focus staff members ran the afterschool program at Bienville Basin Community Development. Four days a week, between six and fifteen children, ages three to 13, attended the program named The Magic Clubhouse by the children themselves.
